Chapter 1. There's a Hole in the Bucket
A harmonization between Genesis and science is shown to be necessary. Christians who become convinced that the biblical account is erroneous are likely to leave the faith and non-Christians who are educated are not likely to become Christians. Without a good explanation of the events described in the Bible, one is forced to either believe the Bible or believe the scientific data.
Chapter 2. The Theological Thicket
This chapter examines the six views of Genesis: the literal interpretation, the gap theory, the day-age theory, intermittent days of creation, days of revelation, and days of proclamation. The strengths and weaknesses of each view are examined in light of other scripture and science. The second half of the chapter examines the use of biblical genealogies to date the earth.
Chapter 3. Earth's Ageless Arguments
Ten geological arguments for a young earth are examined and shown to be problematical. These include: influx of elements into the oceans, new water added to the earth's surface, radioactive dating, the decay of the magnetic field, the erosion of the continents, varves, and the lifetime of oil and gas fields. The common statement that the geologic column does not exist is shown to be erroneous by documenting 26 geologic basins around the world in which rocks of all geologic ages exist in their correct order.
Chapter 4. An Astronomical Age
Ten astronomical arguments for a young universe are examined, including one originated by this author. All ten have been disproved by recent astronomical data. These arguments include: the shrinking of the sun's radius, the existence of galactic clusters, the life-times of comets, and the life-time of lunar craters and dust in the solar system.
Chapter 5. The Mouse That Moved Noah
This chapter reviews some recent genetic information that proves that Noah's flood was much longer ago than 3,500 years. The argument is based upon the observation that there is entirely too much genetic diversity in all species if there had been only a few individuals in existence a few thousand years ago. In light of these data, which unbelievers use as evidence to disprove the Bible, the only logical solution is to move back the date of the Flood.
Chapter 6. Drowning in a Flood of Problems
In this chapter, both the theological and physical problems of having a global flood are examined. The proper translation of the important Hebrew words is very briefly examined before a discussion of the important issues relating to a global flood. These include where the water would come from, where it went, why the many organisms represented by fossils would have seriously overcrowded the pre-Flood earth, the order of the fossils, migration problems to and from the ark, and post-ark problems.
Chapter 7. Adam and Eve-olution
The influential “probability argument” against evolution is looked at in the light of new biological data that shows that life could have been biologically pre-programmed by God. Other issues are the mechanism of evolution; modern observations of speciation; fossil non-working genes which are identical in man, gorilla, chimp and orangutan (for which the common designer argument fails); and the existence of fossil genes on other species. These issues bear on the question of evolution's compatibility with the revealed information that Eve was taken from Adam's side.
Chapter 8. Design in the Universe
This chapter examines the recent anthropic data that is used so effectively by Hugh Ross. A slight twist on the discussion differentiates it from his discussions.
Chapter 9. PreMANition
The condition of the earth before man's advent is presented. A detailed explanation of how Genesis 1 can be absolutely true and yet not force the scientist to throw away his or her science is given. This discussion is quite different from all others on the topic. Original computer models of how evolution can occur are presented in this chapter. They are based on the recent science of non-linear dynamics (all discussions leave the mathematics at home).
Chapter 10. Snake bit.
The earth from Adam to the Flood is the purview of this chapter. A novel explanation is presented for the waters that rose out of the ground, the splitting of the rivers, and the mineralogical description of Eden. The nature of the flood advocated is local in extent but is able to cover 15,000-foot mountains due to its location. The flood hypothesis is completely compatible with the current view of Mediterranean geology. The Biblical description perfectly matches what is found in the Mediterranean region.
Chapter 11. Life After Death
This chapter unites the anthropological and archaeological data in a consistent manner with the biblical data. All of the fossil men are discussed, as well as the rise of civilization. There is also an analysis of what life after the Flood would be like for the few survivors and their descendants. Most discussions seem to assume that life would basically be picked up where Noah and his family left it before the flood. The chapter discusses reasons this could not be true. Finally, the chapter reviews the events from the Flood to Babel and their place within the framework of modern science.
